Last week, Duke announced the selections of redshirt junior linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, senior linebacker Ben Humphreys, redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Jones and redshirt senior wide receiver Johnathan Lloyd as team captains for the 2018 season. The four returning lettermen were elected by their teammates.

“It was an honor to be selected by my teammates and peers,” Lloyd said of the accolade. “I appreciate the honor and I respect it to the utmost.”

Giles-Harris, a preseason All-America pick, also will be a first-time team captain.

“It’s very special,” he said. “It’s an honor that my teammates vote on it and felt I was a guy they can look to and depend on. I’m joined by three other guys who I look up to, so I’m very happy for the opportunity.”

Duke returns nearly every pass catcher from a year ago, bringing back 83.08 percent of its receptions. Of the 14 Blue Devils who caught a pass last fall, only Shaun Wilson (36 receptions) and Quay Chambers (nine) do not return to the squad.

The experience has brought a healthy level of competition to the position room this fall.

“There is a lot of competition and a lot of talented guys in one room,” Lloyd said. “It makes the group elevate as a whole. Guys are making plays. So when you see that, you want to go make a play. You know who is behind you and who is ahead of you. It brings out that competitive edge in each person and it makes the room better as a group.”

Aircraft vs. Redskins: Logic to see in the second precision game

Todd Bulls coach on Tuesday refused to reveal his plan to deploy the clubs. But all the signs are from Thursday night, Sam Dernold.

Before the game on Tuesday, there were 28 representatives during the practice of Darnold, 23 of them were beginners. Compare it with the 24 representatives of Teddy Bridgewater, but with the novice only three. And Josh McCauven’s only five representatives, with all the newcomers.

A year ago, Pauls started Christian Hacburg in the second precision game, and Bris Betty played in the second half. McNall has never played a clear candidate for the situation.

Hernald is much more than Hacburg, so he understands that he starts playing the first half and to play Waterbridge in the second half. But with Boules near Blazer, it is difficult to say with certainty.

Darnold first passed all the tests. He returned after stopping him and with McCann and Bridgetown he was immediately seen in the quarterfinals.

They initially made some big plays. And he impressed everyone on this week during the general practice with Indians. But nothing matters in the quarter-finals that Darrenald plays in these two games.

Darnold will get an opportunity to play against the beginning of the defense, so that everyone can get the actual readings.

It should not be right. She is a newbie and will make mistakes.

But he has to show them that he can recover from indispensable mistakes and he can do a lot of drama. You can be ready (she definitely feels it). But it may require more time.

We will definitely know on Thursday night, and it should be spectacular.

Two years ago, Robbie Anderson was an unknown free agent who was surrounded outside the temple before reaching the FedEx Field, was making six fishing balls at a distance of 131 yards and was landing in the second precision game. Now, the biggest negative weapon can be in the list.

Anderson is proof that unknown players can grow in the NFL roster and can become real contributor. Can anyone play an airplane on the plane? Some candidates: Jonathan Trinmanman and Terry McBride had a good time in practice. Clive Wolfford had a good day with RBS Thomas Rals on Tuesday.

A player will really benefit from a great game: Jordan Leggett. The tight game came back in the second year of the team after almost two weeks, and with Chris Moreland, Legett could have been well in tight race.

Gates’s defense should be good this season, though the speed of the race is still a big question mark. No jet was going through joint exercises with Indians. And with the onset of initial job most likely in the second pressing game, it would be good to see how the rally is.

Henry Anderson, Nathan Sheppard, Folorno Fatuchis and Xavier Cooper have to prove that they can reach the center.

If someone does not appear to be haphazard in the coming days, then general manager Mike McGagnan is seriously agreeing that Gates’s inability to consider player back-end pressure has been a clear weakness in the last three seasons.

Packers vs Steelers

Thursday’s Packers-Steelers game will be the last time the Green Bay Packers will play at home until the regular season.

For that reason, you can expect to see the presence of quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the field, perhaps if only for a series or two.

That means the position battles that are most high-profile for the Packers in August will still commence at high level – that being backup quarterback. You should expect to see a lot of both DeShone Kizer and Brett Hundley.

A lot of attention will also be placed on the battle for wide receiver slots – particularly with the high productivity from Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown and Jake Kumerow last week against Tennessee. They, J’Mon Moore and DeAngelo Yancey are battling for what is expected to be the fourth, fifth and sixth receiver spots on the roster. Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison should get the others.

That’s just the surface of things in the midst of 90 Packers fighting for 53 roster spots, and the second time in game situations they’ll get a chance to show they belong.

Stay tuned.

Series History

The Patriots and Eagles will meet for the 23rd time in the preseason and for the first time in the preseason since 2014 when the Eagles spent time practicing with the Patriots on the fields at Gillette Stadium prior to the preseason contest. It marked the second straight season that the two teams held joint sessions. In 2013, the Patriots traveled to Philadelphia to practice for a few days prior to a preseason game.

This week’s game will be a rematch of Super Bowl LII, a 41-33 victory for Philadelphia at US Bank Stadium In Minnesota.

The Patriots and Eagles last met in the regular season on Dec. 6, 2015, when New England fell, 35-28, to Philadelphia at Gillette Stadium.

While the teams have played just 12 times in the regular season, they have played 22 times in the preseason with the Patriots claiming a 12-10 edge in the series.

Philadelphia leads the all-time regular-season series with a 7-5 margin.
